Art   Therapy

What is art therapy?
You do not have to be a skilled artist, or even be good at art, to benefit from art therapy.  Studies have shown that the act of making art can be therapeutic.  Accessing creativity helps your brain, improves your mood, and can increase your self esteem/confidence.  Making art in therapy can help to communicate concepts, ideas, emotions, motivations, etc. that you may be struggling to communicate with words.  If you are hoping to see issues you have been struggling with in new ways, making art in therapy may be an option to consider.  Art can offer answers or raise more helpful questions.  We may use art in some sessions, or all sessions depending on what you prefer.  We can talk about the art you make, or we can let it speak for itself.

Is art therapy right for me?
You may want to consider art therapy if describing thoughts and emotions verbally is difficult.  Sometimes art therapy works well as a supplement to other talk therapies.  Individuals with the following diagnoses have seen improvements in their symptoms while participating in art therapy:

PTSD/Trauma
Addictions
Eating Disorders
Depression
Anxiety
Self Esteem
Life Stress

Bipolar Disorder
Medical/Physical Issues
Grief/Loss

Art therapy treatment - how we can help
We realize sometimes art making can be intimidating, and we do our best to make it easy and accessible to anyone who can benefit.  If you have any interest in trying art therapy, or just asking some more questions about it, we are accessible to you.  Please feel free to reach out.

**Currently, Teresa Sit is the only therapist in our office who can provide art therapy**
