How does insurance/payments work? There is no preparation necessary for your first appointment with us. When you setup your first session with your individual therapist, we explain how payments work and collect your insurance information. If you are not using insurance to pay of the cost of appointments, you will be provided with a "good faith estimate". If using insurance, your benefits will be verified before you even walk in the door for your session. We communicate everything you need to know about insurance and payments in advance of your first appointment. Since you are talking directly to your provider, everyone is on the same page. We try to make this first session as easy as possible because we know what it is like to feel overwhelmed, and we never want to add on any stress.
What happens in the first session? Prior to your first appointment we will ask you to spend a few minutes filling out some simple, straightforward paperwork. We will spend the first session talking through what has brought you in for the appointment. The session time is yours, so we can focus on whatever feels most helpful for you. We will likely ask you questions, since we are trying to get a full picture of who you are and what you are going through. You can ask us questions too. We are happy to discuss our training and approaches. In this first appointment you are getting a feel for us, just as much as we are working to understand you. At the end of the hour we will ask you if it feels like we are the right fit to move forward together. We will conclude with scheduling, payment details, and review of office policies. Our goal is to help you feel at ease and get you on the path to feeling whole again.
In the smallest of steps taken toward counteracting indigenous invisibility, we acknowledge that our office sits on land stolen from the people of the Council of the Three Fires: Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi, as well as the Miami, Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Sac, and Fox. This land does not belong to us.
